Meta Quest and Augmented Reality

The Meta Quest 3's Next-Gen Augmented Reality feature has been delayed.

The CTO revealed that the feature was sent back to the drawing board in January because it "wasn't that good enough".

Originally slated for release this year, Augments (AR models) are now likely to launch in 2024. The feature was first showcased at Connect 2023, demonstrating how digital picture frames and mirrors could be placed in a user's home.

However, the underlying Spark Studio platform used for Augments was not the best fit, and the latest AR tools are now being leveraged to refashion the feature. 

While details on the updated Augments are scarce, the overhaul of the Horizon OS operating system suggests a refined experience is in the works.
